Tamper: A Cinematic Temple

Tamper: A Cinematic Temple

Cinema is an astonishing 130 year old medium, one of the great human aesthetic inventions and an unparalleled medium for describing events linked through space, across time, and via narrative trajectory. But it’s always been an output-only medium: we sit and take it in. Now TAMPER, a project in partnership with Treadle & Loam, makes cinema a two-way dialogue, allowing visitors to speak back to the screen. Those interacting with TAMPER literally pluck elements — characters, props, vehicles, architecture — out of films selected across the history of film and arrange them on a special composing table to form dreamlike collages. TAMPER reinvigorates the film form for the 21st century and allows the cinematic imagination we all carry within us to emerge into reality.
